History of Harvey Jones

Harvey Jones, 1900-1989 was born a farm boy just east of Springdale Arkansas. At age sixteen, Jones moved to Springdale, where he set up his first business venture, a mercantile store.  Two years later, in 1918, when the railroad went on strike, Jones purchased an old Springfield wagon and two mules to haul goods between Rogers and Fayetteville Arkansas, a daily thirteen-hour trip. In 1919, Jones sold his wagon and mules to buy a Federal truck and named his business Jones Transportation Company.  In the 1920s, and 30s, Jones trucking grew nationwide.  In 1949, the Jones Truck Lines was incorporated, as the nation's largest privately owned and operated truck line.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art was founded in 2005 by philanthropist Alice Walton, daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, and officially opened to the public on November 11, 2011. Situated on 120 acres of Ozark forest in Bentonville, Arkansas—a landscape cherished by the Walton family—the museum was designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie. Its name derives from a nearby natural spring and the bridge-like structures incorporated into its design. The museum's mission is to celebrate the American spirit by uniting the power of art with the beauty of nature, offering free admission to all visitors.

Alice Walton's passion for art began in her childhood, painting watercolors with her mother during family camping trips. Her personal collection formed the foundation of the museum's holdings, which now encompass over 3,500 works spanning five centuries of American art. The Walton Family Foundation provided significant support, including an $800 million endowment and the donation of the land.

The Arkansas & Missouri Railroad (A&M) was established in 1986 as a Class III short line railroad operating a 150-mile corridor from Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Monett, Missouri. Founded by an investor group, the A&M was spun off from the Burlington Northern Railroad and began operations in September 1986. The railroad's mission was to create and maintain a first-class, profitable operation, a vision that continues to guide its business practices today .

The A&M's tracks were originally part of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway (Frisco), constructed between 1880 and 1882. Passenger service on the line was discontinued in 1965, and the Frisco was merged into Burlington Northern in 1980. The A&M purchased the line from Burlington Northern in early 2001, marking a significant milestone in its history.

Today, the A&M operates freight services and seasonal passenger excursions, offering scenic train rides through the Ozark Mountains and Boston Mountains, attracting tourists and rail enthusiasts alike .
